As students in my "Mission Possible: Global Issues, Leadership Choices" class quickly find out, soft power matters. Even though all evidence suggests the novel coronavirus began in China, China has successfully parlayed its response to the virus and its (largely untested) vaccine into soft power, especially in developing countries.
